Dean Lane

Dean Lane is the Founder of the Office of the CIO, a group of CIOs who do not market themselves and are only engaged by referral. In May of 2004, Mr. Lane joined VariTRAK and continues to serve as their Chief Executive Officer. Prior to joining VariTRAK, he served as Senior Director Information Technology at Symantec. Mr. Lane has served as the EVP and CIO for Masters Institute of Technology, as VP and CIO for Plantronics. He has also served as the Corporate Office CIO and Strategic Planner for the Thiokol Corporation who build the Space Shuttle solid rocket motors, and as Allied Signal’s Divisional CIO and Corporate Materials Manager. Mr. Lane has also been a consultant for Ernst & Young, AT&T and the Gartner Group.
Mr. Lane obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of California (UCLA) and his MBA from National University. He serves on the advisory boards for The Adam Smith Institute, Search CIO, Tech Republic, and is President of SFSU’s Center for Business Solutions. He is an active member of Executive World, the Project Management Institute, APICS, the CIO Collective, and is Past President of SIM’s Silicon Valley Chapter. His books CIO Wisdom and CIO Perspectives are among his publications. Mr. Lane speaks internationally, was an advisor to Israel’s former Prime Minister, Ehud Barak, and is a highly decorated US Naval Officer.

Mr. Lane has assisted many companies in their outsourcing efforts, including, but not limited to
Adaptec, Allied-Signal, Flying J, Hitachi. Proxim, Siperion, Symantec, Tibco, and Zilog
